What is scaling and polishing?

Scaling is the process used to remove the hard tartar that has formed on your teeth, while polishing helps clean stains on your teeth. Together, these two procedures clean your teeth to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Regular scaling is highly recommended as it helps to prevent bad breath and gum disease.

If you have gum disease, a procedure called ‘root planing’ might be necessary, where our dentist helps you remove tartar that has gathered at the root of your teeth near the gums. This treatment can be slightly uncomfortable.

Fluoride treatment is often done after scaling and polish. Learn more about Fluoride treatment here.
